This week during science we created a circuit that made a coil spin rapidly. For the experiment, we used a cup and we put rubber bands around it. They held the brass wires in place. We used alligator clamps to connect the circuit to the cup. After that we put the coil in place that was being held by the brass wires. Under the coil we put a magnet. When we pressed the switch down, the coil spun. At first, many groups got frustrated since it didn't work. Some groups had to change certain things for the circuit to work. Eventually all groups got the coil to spin.

Math and Daily 5
We just had our Math test about Unit 2. Unit 2 was all about multiplying, adding, and subtracting numbers and decimals. In Daily 5 we have gotten deep into our guided reading books. When we took the Math test we were all very anxious to see our test grade. We didn't gets the grades back yet because we took it on Thursday.

narative unit
The week we started the narative unit in writing. Each of us is making our personal narative. In these naratives we can write about embarrassing moments, sad moments, well, about anything you want. We did things that happened to us like angry moments or like embarrassing moments. And we are starting to get to the point were we publish our writing.

Reading
As we contiune to build our stamina in Read to Someone, we learned a new Daily 5. It is called Word Work. In this new Daily 5, we find words that we don't know in our books and use the graphic organizer that Ms.Dalal provided for us. This will help us learn new words we don't know and help us understand the story better. We hope that we don't have to repeat any stages!

Welcome back!
Here we are in another school year. So far, we have been doing a lot of "beginning of school" activities to get us back into work mode and out of summer mode. We've been building our stamina in reading and writing with the Daily Five, and we've started our Science unit on Magnets and Motors.
We'll see what the rest of the year has in store!
